Introducing the 2021 IWBI Advisors

Introducing our largest network of advisors around the world

We are honored to welcome over 230 leaders and health champions to our growing network of global advisors! The IWBI advisories program is propelling the movement for people-first places around the world.

As we continue our successful IWBI Research advisory and ten WELL concept advisories, we’re pleased to launch the inaugural IWBI Performance advisory. Collectively, advisors represent IWBI 33 countries, including: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Russia, Scotland, Serbia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.

IWBI advisors are subject matter experts, researchers and practitioners from across many fields and sectors. Their backgrounds include architecture, design, research, medicine, public health and building performance. Together, they are committed to putting the health and well-being of people at the center of building design while also informing the creation of a global research agenda. Advisors also collaborate on emerging industry and scientific research and exchange evidence-based strategies to help transform buildings, organizations and communities in ways that help all people thrive. Part of this process involves addressing the needs of vulnerable and marginalized populations with strategies that support social justice, diversity, equity and inclusion.

IWBI Performance Advisory

Our newest advisory is focused on the demand for indoor environmental testing and monitoring, as well as identifying best practices for emerging building technologies in high-performing buildings. In 2021, the advisory will identify avenues to enhance and improve on-site verification processes to assess building performance and measure occupant experience. Additionally, Performance advisors will standardize best practices for performance testing and monitoring by sharing global insights related to existing protocols, processes and technologies.

IWBI Research Advisory

The IWBI Research advisory is an interdisciplinary group of researchers and practitioners identifying gaps, opportunities and emerging research related to health and the built environment. In 2020, their work culminated in the creation of the inaugural Global Research Agenda which identifies 12 key impact topics, as well as sector-specific strategies for translating research to practice. Key findings of the Global Research Agenda include the need to engage in advocacy and policy work to help secure funding and case studies; the need for transparency and action around existing barriers to research funding; the dissemination of research findings; understanding key stakeholder needs for types of evidence; and an interdisciplinary approach to translating knowledge into practice.

In 2021, the IWBI Research Advisory will focus on activating and disseminating the Global Research Agenda and continue to advise on emerging research trends and identifying priorities to help inform the healthy building movement.

Shape the future of health and well-being with WELL
At IWBI, we’re advancing the role buildings, organizations and communities can play as the first line of defense for public health crises in our lifetimes.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the long-standing health disparities that underrepresented communities face around the world. It brought new attention and importance to the home environment as millions sheltered in place, and the pandemic underscored the role our cities play in prevention and preparedness, resiliency and recovery.

Later this year, we will be standing up additional advisories to facilitate important conversations around health equity, single-family homes and cities. Email us to be notified when the applications launch.
