Director Industry Engagement, Workforce Development & STEM Training
Many years of working with native communities, in Northern and Southern Arizona as well as in Taiwan, have allowed me to develop a sense for the wide spectrum of conditions people live in and how these affect their well-being and health. Implementing projects in native communities has also helped me develop a sensitivity towards a wide spectrum of traditions, spirituality and and cultures, including ways of communicating, decision-making and consensus-building. I specifically appreciate this opportunity to help advance health equity worldwide by supporting the development of standards and guidelines in the context of parameters that are important to different cultures and communities by identifying and scaling strategies that pertain to buildings, businesses and communities across the US and the globe.
I will bring to this work over 20 years of expertise in building and serving communities of educators, STEM and educational research scientists, and computational experts in mainstream and underserved communities in Europe and the US. I am intimately familiar with designing programs to build communities of practice as well as delivering training in complex subject matters, such as ethical sensitive research approaches, molecular genetics and computational research skills. I am also intimately familiar with developing and maintaining shared resources.
My education and early career played out in biomedical research (Cologne, Germany;Tucson, US) and in education (Cold Spring Harbor, NY;Tucson, AZ). I have since broadened my expertise considerably, directing complex research projects and working with diverse people, bridging the gaps between research, training and impact.
