Erin Christensen Ishizaki
Partner
Erin is nationally recognized for advancing sustainable, healthy development. An urban planner and architect with 20 years’ experience, she leads plans, strategies, and design research for public, private, non-profit, and institutional clients, with expertise in transit-oriented development, housing, and high-performance districts. Erin’s practice is inspired by connections – to place and to each other – in support of strong economies and resilient environments. Her award-winning work and collaborative, listening approach highlight the nexus of well-being, resilience, and inclusion in projects that maximize investment for all.
As a Partner, Erin leads Mithun’s national Urban Design and Planning practice. She brings creative thought leadership and a proven track record to directing complex projects with budgets of up to $4m. She launched Mithun’s Design for Health initiative in partnership with the Green Health Partnership, a project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the U.S. Green Building Council, and the University of Virginia School of Medicine.
Her research incorporates public health methods and actively drives her practice, including the widely published Mariposa Healthy Living Initiative and seven health equity assessments. It shapes industry standards including the EcoDistricts Protocol and Enterprise Green Communities Criteria. Erin was recognized by the Urban Land Institute as a Global 40 Under 40 Professional.
