Alexandra Bousiou

Senior Researcher

Alexandra Bousiou (PhD) is currently senior researcher for the H2020 project MERGING, whose general objective is to develop, implement and test a participatory migrant housing construction program dedicated to co-creating inclusive policies and practices. Her research lies at the intersection of law and politics in the area of migration and asylum with a focus on governance. Her PhD thesis analysed the governance of the European asylum system at the Greek border islands. She has worked for 7 years as a human rights lawyer and as an administrative judge at the Greek Asylum Service. She has also conducted research for the past 10 years on issues of migration. She has further specialised on migration and health and she is teaching at the interdisciplinary masters programmes on Public Health at the University of Gothenburg. Her work has been published on peer reviewed journals including International Migration and the Journal for Balkan and Neareastern Studies.
