Henning Bloech

Independent sustainability consultant

Henning Bloech is an independent sustainability consultant and trainer who specializes in helping companies and organizations create value through sustainability. His expertise encompasses business strategy, innovation, planning, and execution, as well as global market access planning in the areas of healthy buildings, sustainable products and supply chains, environmental labeling and certifications. His clients include sustainability firms, certification bodies, retailers, and manufacturers around the world, such as Delos Living LLC (WELL® Building Standard), SCS Global Services (Floorscore®, SCS Indoor Advantage®), eco- INSTITUT Germany (eco INSTITUT Label®), Rewe, König+Neurath, and others.

As the Commercial Director of Building Performance Programs for Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Henning led the development and commercialization of UL’s sustainable building performance initiatives, building indoor air quality related standards, programs, and certifications worldwide.

Previously, he was responsible for strategy and business development of UL Environment and its programs and services, leading strategic development and sustainable initiatives of certification programs and capabilities. Henning helped start GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) as its first employee in 2001 and as Executive Director he was instrumental in establishing the GREENGUARD Indoor Air Quality Certification program as the world’s leading indoor air quality certification.

From 2006 until 2009, Henning was the Global Sustainability Director for INVISTA Performance Surfaces and Materials. He developed and led environmental strategies and programs for INVISTA Performance Surfaces and Materials businesses and brands including ANTRON® carpet fiber, STAINMASTER® carpet and CORDURA® fabric.

Henning has published numerous articles and business cases on sustainable product selection, indoor air quality, source control, and green procurement. He is an established speaker and has held training seminars and presentations on green design and indoor air quality at conferences and symposia around the world including IMM, Neocon, CSI, TFM, USGBC Greenbuild, CerTech, ASTM, Aerias, IIDA, and AIA.

Henning Bloech holds a Masters Degree from Georg August University in Göttingen, Germany. He is a LEED Accredited Professional, he was a founding member of the Green Products Roundtable, a member of the TFM Green Buildings Advisory Board and of the Outdoor Industry Associations Sustainability Working Group. He currently lives in Göttingen, Germany.
