Dr. Darcie Chinnis

Associate Principal

Darcie graduated from the University of Colorado in Boulder with two concurrent degrees: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Engineering (Illumination emphasis) and Master of Science in Civil Engineering (Building Systems Program). Her Master’s degree research was examining lighting for the visually-healthy aged population. After graduation, she joined the Los Angeles office of HLB as a lighting designer. While at HLB, she has been able to explore a wide range of project types and grow her design and management skills. She was the first leader of Sustainability when the HLB Daylighting and Sustainable Design studio was formed.

While a PhD candidate at UC Boulder, she worked as a Daylighting Designer, Engineer and Researcher, and received a two-year National Science Foundation GK-12 fellowship, which put her into local K-12 classrooms to teach engineering. She has since worked on projects that included interior and exterior architectural lighting design, energy code development, research projects, lighting ordinance development, and lighting controls demonstrations.

Darcie is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Colorado, a LEED Accredited Professional in Building Design and Construction, an active member of IES, and a recent inductee on the Board of Directors for the International Dark-Sky Association.
