Christhina Candido
Associate Professor in Environmental and Sustainable Design / Director Sustainable and Healthy Environments Lab
I am an architect by training and hold a PhD in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil) and in Environmental Science from Macquarie University (Australia). I have shaped a strong international profile in the fields of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE), Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ), workspace design and climate responsive design in tropical and subtropical climates. I work closely with industry and government stakeholders, the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA), New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC), the National Australian Built Environment Rating System (NABERS) and the US-based International WELL Building Standard.
I lead the SHE (Sustainable and Healthy Environments) Lab, which develops a program of applied research aimed at understanding how the built environment can improve sustainability and health, thorough the design of high performance spaces. The Lab is a joined effort between UoM and USydney and it is strongly committed in providing career advancement opportunities for female ECRs from diverse backgrounds. SHE has an active network of researchers from USydney, UTS, Griffith and UCL collaborating on multidisciplinary, large-scale projects funded by industry, state government and the ARC. The SHE and BOSSA POE surveys I lead/contribute to enable continuous data collection about the design, performance and experience of spaces from the occupants’ perspective, capturing long-term trends in the Australian Corporate Real Estate and other sectors.
