WELL APs take on Earth Day
What do WELL APs and IWBI have in common? We take Earth Day seriously. While our organization celebrated Earth Day with an entire week dedicated to environmental education, awareness and action, WELL APs everywhere joined in by giving back to their communities.
It’s not an exaggeration when we say that WELL APs everywhere participated in this year’s Earth Day—we received responses from WELL APs worldwide who took part in local activities or engaged in personal efforts to honor this day of environmental service.
Our growing network of WELL APs helps communities thrive with people-first places, and they share a commitment to investing in sustainable, science-backed solutions for the future of our environment.
We couldn’t do this without you—thank you to everyone who shared their inspiring Earth Day-related photos, activities and achievements with us. WELL APs are leading the change for a healthier planet for people everywhere, and it’s all possible thanks to people like you.
We received an overwhelmingly positive response from future and current WELL APs around the globe. In addition to sharing how WELL APs are taking action with widespread environmental efforts, they also told us why they were interested in pursuing the WELL AP credential.
WELL AP Testimonies (in alphabetical order):
Lawrence Berman, U.S., Ener-Chi Solutions, LLC
“It’s in the bag—I bought reusable bags for grocery shopping. No more plastic bags that will end up in a landfill or ocean for me. It might be a small step, but it’s one that will be memorable every shopping trip.”

“I created a lighting company called Feng Shui Lighting, and I recently retired. As I start my next chapter, I plan to use my WELL AP credential to expand my knowledge of factors that impact vitality in buildings and inform my future consultations with developers, owners and designers to create what I call ‘good Ener-Chi’ in a space.”
Gabriel Garcia, Mexico, Trane
“Back in March of 2020 I purchased solar panels, but I couldn’t install them as a result of lockdowns. I took up this project again and finally installed them in February 2022. In a little more than two months the panels have already reduced my CO2 emissions by 1T.”

“I want to learn more about how I—and my organization—can help save resources in other environmental areas.”
Brian Liu, Canada, Gensler
“This Earth Day, my colleagues and I started a community cleanup to usher in the spring season and warm weather! It was a great activity in helping to build social connections around a common goal after working from home. It also served to educate and illustrate issues around our environmental footprint.”

“I want to become a WELL AP to gain insight on better wellness practices as well as learn how to better communicate with clients about the benefits of proper health and well-being. I consult and advise clients every day on their workplace strategies, so I would like to be able to create the ideal environment that enables people to perform their best.”
Mohammad Saki, U.K., University of Greenwich
“I have started a new network on well-being and sustainability in healthcare facilities. There is a need to educate front-line healthcare staff in the briefing, development and governance of healthcare construction projects for the effective participation in the New Hospital Programme announced by the UK government.
This network aims to launch an engagement process with NHS staff, patients and built-environment experts over the coming months to identify further opportunities and resources to help decarbonise our health service.”

“I would like to increase my knowledge on well-being and also get worldwide recognition for it. The WELL AP credential will provide me with both.”
Carlos Sendra, Spain, Universidad de Sevilla
For this year’s Earth Day, I participated in my first community reforestation in my hometown of Málaga, Spain. Last summer, a wildfire spread all over the western part of the city, forcing hundreds of people to leave their houses, so this was a great opportunity to help at a local level. The sun was shining and I was happy to do my part in contributing to the planet.

“I want to become a WELL AP to contribute to the built environment and design a better future with sustainable practices. As an architecture student, I am conscious of the importance of making indoor environments as healthy as they can be, so I want to learn how to enhance well-being for people who are going to live, work and play in these indoor spaces.”
