Get to know WELL: What is a WELL Assessor?
The WELL Building Standard is an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring the performance of building features that impact health and wellbeing. WELL Certification begins with registration through WELL Online. Once documentation has been submitted, GBCI will assign a WELL Assessor to the project. The WELL Assessor is integral to the certification process. He/she will be the person who reviews project documentation and performs all onsite performance testing and visual inspections that are part of Performance Verification.
What is a WELL Assessor?
A WELL Assessor ensures that your project complies with WELL Building Standard or WELL Community Standard requirements, and acts as the third-party reviewer for both the documentation and Performance Verification phases of WELL Certification.
How is a WELL Assessor different from a WELL AP or WELL coaching support?
WELL APs/project administrators serve as consultants, acting as the primary source of WELL expertise for the project. A WELL AP consulting scope typically includes working with the project owner to develop a wellness vision and goals for the project, targeting a certification level and specific WELL features to pursue, working with project team members to ensure compliance with WELL feature requirements and potentially recommending specific strategies or products, compiling WELL documentation, attending Performance Verification and developing strategies for any necessary ongoing maintenance of WELL or curative actions.
WELL coaching helps support the project administrator and/or WELL AP, providing resources and information to help navigate the WELL Certification process smoothly, overcome challenges, brainstorm solutions and inspire effective implementation of WELL. While the project’s WELL AP and/or project administrator is the primary source for answering technical questions for the project team, the WELL coaching team can clarify WELL requirements for the WELL AP in instances where the answer is not available in published guidance and/or the project has a unique or complex scenario. WELL Assessors perform the third-party review of WELL Certification on behalf of GBCI, for both documentation and Performance Verification.
Who are the WELL Assessors?
The Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI) manages and administers third-party certification for the WELL Building Standard, including oversight and training of WELL Assessors. WELL Assessors are highly experienced individuals from the building industry with experience implementing sustainability initiatives and third-party certifications.
